"This is the single most powerful and informative
movie about society's treatment of animals. A must see for anyone who cares enough to know" - Woody Harrelson Animal ProtectionThough our societies have finally given all humans equal rights, they have yet to afford the same basic rights of protection to animals. For people who keep animals as pets, there are laws against animal cruelty, at least in most first world countries. However, those laws do not provide animals with the kind of protection they need. The majority of the population turns a blind eye to animal cruelty issues, and wants to believe that the food on their dinner table came from a humanely killed animal. After watching Earthlings, it is impossible to stay naïve. The proof is in the images - horrible animal shelter "gas chambers" where dogs are piled on top of each other and gassed to death (it takes twenty minutes for them to die) and supposedly kosher beef factories ignoring all kosher rules, basically torturing the animal in a scene that tops any gruesome horror movie. After watching the shocking mistreatment of animals, it is clear that there currently isn't enough protection from the government. Legislation preventing animal cruelty needs to be put in place to stop the current torture that animals are experiencing. Earthlings asks the question that needs to be answered: What kind of a society, and what kind of people allow our fellow earthlings to be treated in such a horrible way? It is clear that animals feel pain, are aware of the world around them, and need a certain standard of living in order to thrive as living beings. However, animals can't speak for themselves - only people who work to change the current standards can help protect them. |
