I don't want to open a new topic but feel like sharing this:

I just made the most delicious cheese cake!! It's awesome and you wouldn't even taste the difference from the "real" thing.

That's what I love about being vegan. Normally I would just go out and buy a cake but because nobody sells vegan stuff around here, I just make it myself! I never was much of a cook but now I love experimenting with new food.

Anyway, back to all the negativity.

DG and Dee.

thanks so much. I really do feel more confident about it now. I guess I needed to vent because of all the vegetarian bashes I've had lately.

Some of them aren't directed at me but vegans/vegetarians in general. Not a problem though.

You guys rock! I'm so glad I'm part of this forum!!

After 3 weeks of delay on presenting the earthlings video, when I finally got to present it, it turned out to be a big dissapointment. My other classmates were really interested in my drawings related to animals used for food, and the vegan cupcakes were a hit, but when it came time to watching the video people preferred to turn a blind eye, literally. Most of them didnt even stay for the intro. Though I expected some people to leave because of the heavy content, I didn't expect it to the extext that occured. By the end of it there were only 2 people there. Fortunately one of the girls said she was absolutely shocked by what she was saw and said that she was considering going vegetarian so I gave her some literature about the meat, dairy and egg industries. All in all, I was just dissappointed in the reaction, which was people quite literally walking away. i shouldn't have expectations, I know, but considering their sympathetic reaction to the drawings I produced, depicting the animal issues, in addition to the cupcakes, I suppose I expected a more open mind from more people. I was wrong. its times like that, that human nature ,in choosing to stay ignorant, just makes me mad. And now, in class everything is back to 'normal' people just act like nothing happened. Like they hadn't seen something that scared them into ignoring it completely, some of them even acted offended believe it or not. On a more positive note however, this weekend the vegetarian/vegan society here in Brisbane is organising a stall at an upcoming festival ,supposedly there's going to be something like 50,000 people coming to it, so I'm going to pitch in with that. All in all, in terms of my activism, and thanks alot to that post by DG, I'm sick of taking that apologetic approach in my veganism. I've had it.

Getting someone to go vegan is not a disapointment in my book.

hi alexloverh -- no matter how much we try to walk that tightrope of trying to educate while not setting ourselves up for hurt and anger, the hurt and anger is always there. I am not surprised at your experience. I am not naive anymore to think that I can get through. The masses just don't care. Selfishness and self-gratification is the modus operandi for the vast majority of people ... even people who appear smart in all other respects.

I hate to be a downer, but the animals are doomed ... and we are doomed. Eventually something will happen where it will all be wiped clean and everything will be free.
