Re: First time I heard of Earthlings 4 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hola everybody, well seems like a few folk here, that have connected up, mainly because of Joaquin, which is quite amazing. I was a vegetarian, then lapsed, and for the past year or maybe more, Ive been really feeling crap about even looking at meat on sale, etc.
So whilst Im not a vegan as yet, I am making headway.
I havent seen the film yet, and I ONLY found out about it tonight, whilst I was looking up filming sites, and projects, on the net, relating to Joaquin, and this was a REAL find.
I dont even know if the film has been released in UK yet, or what that situation is. I will just buy it anyway.
And maybe do some kinda showing to friends, or find out more about if there is anyone in Edinburgh, that would like to set up a talk/showing night, or events etc.
Any ideas, or anyone on the forum living in Scotland. Please contact me.
OK Adios for now Amigos

I heard about it about five minutes ago through the canadian band Propagandhi's website. I have yet to see the movie, but I really want to see it.
I've been vegetarian for over 4 years and became vegan about 5 months ago and feel healthier because of it. I living without the guilt of animal cruelty.

ps- check out propagandhi they are awesome. They are a really animal friendly band with conserns of other injustices we are submersed in. http://www.propagandhi.com/

I saw a screening of Earthlings at the Animal Rights 2005 (AR 2005) conference in Los Angeles. I cried through much of it. It was very difficult to watch... I was already vegan when I saw it, but I'm fairly certain that even in my old meat-eating days, I would have converted rapidly as a result of watching this film. I am encouraged by the poster who said he converted because of it.

It's excellent, and very well done. Thank you!

I just watched it. 4 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I just finished watching this movie. I had to break it up into two parts. The night before I only made it up to Fur, and tonight I finished.
I have such respect for the people involved in it's production. I don't know that I could have poored over so much horror, day after day, through editing, scoring, ect. with out shutting down.
This is important work. I regret that most people will not watch it. I was already of the opinion, before watching the film, that it's this aversion we have to watching such images that is proof that humanity has the chance for redemption.
My wife & I have been Vegan for a year now.
I grew up in Montana & was raised around farming & ranching. We had goats, pigs, horses, a cow , a beefalo (cross between a cow & buffalo), dogs & geese.
I went hunting with my dad. I enjoyed spending time with him and getting out into the wild but I always disliked the bloody finale, & even though I can hit paper targets or water bottles I never killed anything when I went hunting.
I realized my own evil when I shot a pigeon wit a bb gun. It didn't just fall over dead...it suffered. I had to keep shooting it over & over but it just kept flopping around until it's brain came out it's mouth & died.
I was disgusted with myself. What had this animal done to me? How had it deserved such treatment?
I was a coward about watching videos of the acts of violence against animals. I would say "I was raised on a farm , oh believe me I know" then go about my life as most do, still eating a meat centered diet & wearing leather.
Since starting this change in my life about a year ago I now know that I didn't know even a fraction... I didn't truely know! The scope of it. The elaborate factories.
The only evil found on this planet, in nature, is man. What kills me is that mankind has a choice, no one is forcing us.
I will leave you with my praise but also a little advice for other Vegans that may read this.
As much as you may feel frustration or anger at people that don't value your way of life it is important to not alienate them. Don't use divisive terms such as "Meat-eater". Your anger is justified, however most of us were "Meat-eaters" at one time, & if you are honest with your self you know that if some one had appoached you with such scorn you would have shut them out. If their ears are shut, they will not listen, if thier eyes are closed they will not see.
Thanks for your time.

Someone in an animal rights/vegetarian messageboard I frequent mentioned Earthlings and encouraged us all to watch it. I have just completed viewing it and it has moved, angered, sickened, saddened and disgusted me in every way. I turned vegetarian a few months ago and - if I hadn't done so then - then I certainly would have after seeing this film. An incredibly brave and important piece of film-making.
