Ok, now I read it all.
I think your specific situation doesn't really raise ethical problems beansidhe0.
However, I got the impression that you were advocating for a sustained production of eggs and other such 'products' as long as it is done in a "humane" way. I think that that is morally problematic, for the reasons stated above (and because even, say, backyard egg-producing operations require the regular killing of male chicks because they are an 'inconvenience'.)
Now, this is a suggestion free from moral judgments, but I read about a sanctuary were the rescued hens' eggs were given to their natural predators, as a way to help the predators AND diminish the victims of their attacks.
I think that's an awesome way to put these eggs to the best use (sort of like what you already do feeding omelettes to Pippin.)
I don't know anymore if I should talk about plants, since I don't know if it is important to the issue at hand, really. And I'm kinda dizzy right now with all the aftershocks.

So let me know if you'd like to know my opinion anyway.
Cheers!
