Sorry for taking long to reply.
You are right that many humans do feel empathy and love for other animals. Sadly, this is usually a 'selective' empathy and love that applies only for some species.
As Kenneth Cassar (an abolitionist vegan advocate) wrote in his blog:

PS: Oh, and Atheism isn't really something one 'believes', but rather, a lack of belief (in this case, a lack of belief in deities, or other supernatural powers/characters.) Here's another video you might wanna check, this time about Atheism:
